How to Find the Location of Your Domain

To locate where you purchased your website domain, step through each of the options below:

Option 1: Check Your Email 

  • Search your inbox for emails related to “domain purchase” or “domain registration.”
  • Look for any confirmation emails from domain registrars like GoDaddy, Namecheap, Bluehost, HostGator, IONOS or others.

Option 2: Log in to Your Domain Registrar Account

  • If you remember the platform you used or located an email, log in to that domain registrar’s website (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap).
  • Your user id usually an email and you can reset your password if you don’t remember it.
  • Once logged in, go to the “Domains” or “My Account” section to view your domain names.

Option 3: If you don’t have an email or remember where you purchased it from use ICANN WHOIS Lookup

  • Go to the ICANN WHOIS website.
  • Enter your domain name in the search bar.
  • The search results will display information about your domain, including the registrar (where you purchased the domain).
  • Go to the website of the registrar listed and entry of UserID and Password. You may need to contact the registrar to gain access.

Option 4: Check Website Host Account

  • If you bundled your domain with hosting (such as SiteGround, Bluehost, IONOS, HostGator etc.), log into your hosting provider’s account.
  • Go to the “Domains” section to check if your domain was purchased through them.

Option 5: Check Your Payment History

  • Search through your bank or credit card statements for any charges related to a domain registrar or hosting provider.
  • Look for transactions that match the time when you purchased the domain.

One of these options will assist you in identifying where you purchased your website domain.
